As a Principal Software Engineering Employee you are responsible for the overall delivery process of a software application or service, including design, development, testing, deployment, production application support (e.g., troubleshooting) and maintenance with a focus on automation.

About the position:
  • Collaborate to gather and review software requirements/user stories, provide estimates, create software design specifications and collaborate with engineers/architects to assess and test hardware and software interactions
  • Execute a specific development methodology through application of various programming languages
  • Create and execute automated test plans/strategies utilizing business requirements and collaborate with engineers/architects, clients, etc. to validate test environments, test data and test results, design and implement code fixes, validate outcomes against expected results and produce associated reporting.
  • In addition to Unit Test, responsibilities may include dynamic application security testing, interface testing, integration testing, end-to-end testing and/or user acceptance testing
  • Supports applications and solves configuration and environment issues
  • Supports the software deployment process
  • Design, code, test, debug and document new and existing components to ensure that software meets business, quality and operational needs
  • Align development teams to a shared technical direction and partners with those teams in elaborating the Solution and its interfaces
  • Work with portfolio stakeholders, Solution and Enterprise Architects, to develop, analyze, split, and realize the implementation of enablers
  • Build high quality code following unit testing and test-driven development
  • Establish critical NFRs at the solution level, participate in the definition of others
  • Drive and participate in code and document reviews, mentoring team in best practices
  • Collaborate with peer organizations, dev ops, support organizations on technical issues and provide guidance
  • Interpret and translate business needs to technical requirements and accurate estimates
  • Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies and processes to ensure the highest quality and performance is achieved
  • Work with team to troubleshoot code level problems quickly and efficiently
  • Apply deep technical expertise to resolve challenging programming and design problems
  • Focus on scalability, security and availability of all applications and processes
  • Contribute to the design and architecture to enable secure, scalable and maintainable software
  • Contribute to technical roadmap and technical debt elimination, balancing time, resource, and quality constraints to achieve business and strategic goals and requirements


Required Requirements:
  • 8-10 years of Software Engineering experience
  • 7+ years experience developing enterprise applications using Java/J2EE;
  • 5+ years' experience with Spring/Spring Boot, Apache Tomcat, Web Services
  • 3+ years experience with Cloud technologies including Azure, Kubernetes, Solr, Kafka
  • 4+ years of experience in architecture and design of systems using Micro services architecture
  • 5+ years of experience in Unit and Function testing using any testing framework


Desired Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Science, Electrical Engineering, or Math
  • Developer nanodegree; or equivalent experience
  • Telecommunication domain experience
  • Experienced in secure coding standards and practices
  • Experience with DevOps CI/CD practices, build and deploy tools (Jenkins, GitHub, Artifactory)
  • Experience with Dynatrace, log monitoring and Grafana/Prometheus
  • Solid understanding of fundamental design principles, able to drive design of modular, scalable, and resilient platform
  • Experienced with secure coding standards and practices


Supervisory: No

Our Principal Software Engineering, earn between $158,200 - $237,400. Not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
