Title: Professional Development Manager

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:

Under supervision, develops and implements a comprehensive training and staff development program for the Park District. Performs related duties as required.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Professional Development Manager plays a key role in the execution of workforce development activities for all park district employees. This role will facilitate training programs, in-person and/or virtually, and administer the district's learning management system (the Success Center). This role will also work collaboratively with other departments to address specific training needs, assist with the procurement and/or creation of training content, cultivate a strong talent pipeline, and develop a training calendar. This role will assist with hiring activities as needed . May supervise staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Implement training activities for all aspects of park operations, via coordination & collaboration with key stakeholders, internally & externally.
  • Collaborate with departments to identify training needs, create or gather content accordingly, and facilitate training events, including registration, attendance, tracking, and reporting.
  • Develop, manage, and/or assist with training systems, apps & other tech platforms, including but not limited to the Success Center, Articulate360, ActiveNet, and SharePoint.
  • Facilitate and/or assist with the development of training content, including presentations, guides, videos, interactive documents, and other training materials.
  • Leverage strategic resources for District's goals, including but not limited to leadership & management initiatives, talent pipeline management, internship programs, etc.
  • Retrieve reports & track training compliance, including completion rates, employee training activity & engagement, and skills gaps analysis, to identify targeted training solutions.
  • Monitor department email, manage outreach & marketing requests, distribute monthly updates, and act as a liaison for workforce-related concerns & inquiries.
  • Facilitate and/or assist with recruitment & hiring activities, such as coordinating attendance at for job fairs, employee processing tasks, etc.
  • Handle workforce-related Help Desk inquiries, including account creation, assignment of trainings, password resets, and other user experience requests.
  • Assist with monitoring of contacts and agreements with vendors, partners & suppliers.
  • And other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor's degree in human resources, organizational development, or a related field; 5 years management and training experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A Master's degree in human resources, organizational development, parks and natural resources management, recreation and leisure studies or a related field.

Certified Park & Recreational Professional/Executive (CPRP/E) certificate.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to utilize technology and computer software to create and deliver training. Ability to work independently and in teams. Project management skills. Extensive knowledge of training, design, and adult learning practices. Desire to deliver high-quality customer service to staff in all departments of the organization. Ability to work cooperatively with community groups and city agencies. Primarily sedentary work, but some light work activities required, including but not limited to; standing, walking, light lifting and other activities essential to event administration.
