MISSION:
It is the mission of the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) to impact and transform young lives, strengthen families, and support safer communities through targeted prevention and rehabilitation.

JOB PURPOSE:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of confidential and complex secretarial/administrative duties. This position ensures that accurate information on the youth being detained and is obtained from the security staff in order to maintain the flow of youth through the Juvenile Justice system.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Review court order to ensure youth can be housed at the Midlands Evaluation Center.

Document date/time of receipt of youth, issue necessary paperwork to the transporting officer.

Collects contraband.

Receipts any money.

Takes I.D. pictures and makes identification bracelets.

Conducts a check of youth weight and height.

Interviews the youth to update personal information.

Administers fingerprinting.

Checks DNA status.

Conducts drug screens on youth with screen requested on their court orders and completes all necessary paperwork.

Compiles youth master file records for transport to Central Records according to date system.

Prints Form 5 for evaluation to include special instructions, types 6 index cards and 4 labels with pertinent youth information.

Creates 3 complete folders (social work, psychology, and master file), and copies and distributes as required.

Maintains accurate information on statistical data needed for monthly statistics and PBS reporting.

Submit a weekly trip list daily for evaluation youth going to court.

Maintains the upkeep and data for daily functioning of the facility office equipment to include troubleshooting and submitting work orders.

Performs other duties as needed for the mission of the agency.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

STATE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A high school diploma and relevant program experience. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required program experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of laws, regulations, policies and procedures relevant to the area of employment.

Ability to exercise judgment and discretion.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Under general supervision, annually scheduled performance review.

Must be able to sit for prolonged periods, communicate orally and in writing, navigate building, operate office equipment, bend, stoop, lift and reach, able to lift 5 lbs., work in an environment with incarcerated youth.

This position performs job duties relating to the custody control transport or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice, and the employee may have direct/indirect contact with youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Training applicable to these duties will be provided.
