The WV Cancer Institute/Department of Cancer Prevention and Control at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Program Coordinator.

About the Opportunity

Participates in and contributes to the mission, vision, and strategic plan of WVU Cancer Institute (WVUCI) and Department of Cancer Prevention and Control (CPC). Facilitates day to day programming for one or more specific CPC programs or WVUCI priority projects. Cancer Prevention and Control serves all of West Virginia and this position will require travel throughout the state. This position is located within the Department of CPC in the WVU School of Medicine, and WVUCI and duties may include a variety of CPC or WVUCI projects and responsibilities. Work effort enhances state, regional, and national partnerships, delivery of service, community engagement, and WVUCI priorities.

What You'll Do

  • Identifies, develops new, and maintains partnerships with strategic stakeholders, community, and professional partners, and various community-based organizations throughout West Virginia and the Appalachian region.
  • Coordinates statewide and regional meetings, trainings, and special events which may include managing the continuing education credit process and other administrative activities related to event planning.
  • Coordinates meetings for steering and advisory boards as needed to acquire community-based engagement. This includes developing an agenda, recording meeting minutes, and disseminating meeting minutes as appropriate.
  • Coordinates partnership-related activities which includes recruitment, enrollment, and retention of members to cancer-related programs, both online and in-person.
  • Contributes to the design and dissemination of innovative, culturally appropriate, evidence-based programs, content, and services. Provides direction and expertise in program planning, implementation, evaluation, and applied research.
  • Documents program progress, assessing strengths/weaknesses, and develops and implements strategies to improve outcomes and deliverables.
  • Develops and disseminates cancer information creating resources such as handouts, flyers, presentations, internal and external communications, videos, photographs, posters, infographics, social media, websites, etc. as relevant to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Creates and contributes to and/or maintains social media accounts for specific CPC or WVUCI efforts. This may include posting on social media, facilitating podcasts, etc.
  • Creates content for specific program, CPC, and/or WVUCI websites.
  • Disseminates information to appropriate community-based groups in writing and digitally in support of broader program goals.
  • Facilitates the goals and processes associated with the distribution of resources (funding, content-specific, etc.) to community members as appropriate. This may include management of mini-grants, recruitment and selection of awardees, the provision of technical assistance, progress monitoring, and some budgetary oversite of projects.
  • Attends statewide initiatives such as Mountains of Hope Cancer Coalition, community events, and partner collaborations, etc.
  • Develops and delivers presentations on cancer screening, health literacy, and cultural competency as needed.
  • Represents WVU Cancer Institute and/or Cancer Prevention and Control at state, regional, and national meetings, and conferences.
  • Assists with development of cancer educational and small media resources.
  • Submits articles, abstracts, and posters to promote programmatic work and outreach of CPC.
  • Seeks and applies for additional funding opportunities for CPC projects.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in appropriate discipline: public health, nursing, health communications, social work, social sciences, health education, healthcare administration, marketing, or other healthcare professions degree.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the following:
    • Delivering health education programs.
    • Event planning and group dynamics
    • Leadership, program assessment, evaluation, and practice facilitation.
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary team environment and to coordinate participation of team members from various backgrounds.
  • Skilled in group facilitation, mediation, and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to manage health education programs, event planning, group dynamics, leadership, program assessment, evaluation, and practice facilitation.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and with a significant degree of independence.
  • Commitment to principles of community and diversity.
  • Ability to travel with occasional overnight stays, working outside the traditional work week when needed.
  • Ability to maintain proper attendance and punctuality standards.
  • Willingness to seek consultation and supervision as needed.
  • Knowledge of current health issues, health education and behavioral theories, and health information needs of the medically underserved preferred.


  • Valid Driver's license related to travel requirements of the position
  • CITI Certification preferred (or ability to be attained within 6-months of hiring)
