The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary
The International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) supports a community of over 18,000 students and scholars with all their immigration-related needs, providing advisory and documentation services and information on a host of issues.
The ISSO has launched a new programming team, which focuses on social, cultural, and professional development programming tailored for international students, scholars, and their families. We are looking for an enthusiastic program assistant with experience in coordinating, supporting, and delivering effective and enriching programs and events. The incumbent will support programming across the team's portfolio, with a special focus on international scholars, and their spouses and families.
Responsibilities
- Support ISSO programming efforts by coordinating a schedule of offerings, supporting logistics, operations, and execution of programs as assigned.
- Manage all logistics and coordination efforts for the ISSO English Conversation Class offerings for spouses and partners of Columbia's accompanying international student and scholar populations.
- Develop a series of offerings and events for the spouses and partners of Columbia University's international student and scholar population.
- Recruit and support the volunteer leaders of the International Spouse and Partner Network.
- Collaborate with ISSO Program Manager on scheduling and staff support for all program offerings.
- Ensure well-orchestrated, professional, safe, and successful programs and learning opportunities for all involved.
- Maintain quality control and consistent branding of all ISSO programming content online and in-person.
- Develop and implement a marketing and communication strategy that promotes all ISSO programming efforts, in collaboration with the Associate Director and the Director of Faculty and Scholar Services.
- Create appropriate ISSO programming team communication and outreach messaging for programs and events within this portfolio.
- Manage the appropriate ISSO programming web pages, including event registration pages for all programs within this portfolio.
- Coordinate with appropriate stakeholders to cross-promote specific programs and events.
- Support the ISSO programming team on a full portfolio of programming, events, and initiatives.
- Represent ISSO at other CU programs, events, meetings, professional associations, organizations, and groups.
- Host open office hours and respond to all inquiries related to scholar and spouse/partner programming in a timely manner. Escalate urgent issues to the Associate Director.
- Partner and consult with the Associate Director and internal departments to create and deliver work plans.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree with a minimum 2 years of professional work experience in international education, student life/programming, continuing education, teaching, and/or related fields.
- Experience working with adults with varying levels of English language proficiency.
- Familiarity and practice of intercultural communication skills.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Web-based applications.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, plan, organize, and effectively manage time.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Education, Adult Learning, Higher Education, or Cross-Cultural counseling.
- Experience with international scholar populations, English language learners, and working with diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Proficiency in at least one foreign language.
- Experience living abroad.
