"USE THIS:Octavia E. Butler Magnet, formerly Washington STEAM Multilingual Academy, is a middle school serving students in grades 6-8.
Certified by the National Institute for STEM Education, we provide a rigorous Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics integrated curriculum which helps our students to become technologically literate problem solvers, logical thinkers, and innovators.
Our Spanish Dual Language Immersion Program prepares students to be bilingual, bi-cognitive, reflective, and culturally-sensitive citizens.
At OEB Magnet, 87% of students qualified for free or reduced price lunch. Student ethnicity is 79% Hispanic or Latino, 13% Black or African American, 5% White, and 2% Asian, Filipino, Pacific Islander. Approximately 24% of students are English Learners. With the new guidelines indicating that reclassified English Learners will need to be monitored for four years instead of two, that puts our English Learner percentage nearly 50%. Requirements / Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL LICENSE OR LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Education: Must possess a secondary (i.e., high school) school diploma, or its equivalent (GED).
Experience: Recent paid or volunteer experience involving organized activities with elementary school children.
Special Licenses, Certifications, Language Skills:
As required by California Education Codes and Health & Safety Codes, school staff working with children must be free of infectious tuberculosis (TB). Proof of current TB screening must be presented prior to employment and renewed every 4 years thereafter.
Possession of current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid certificates from approved training program is desirable.
The ability to read, write and speak a language, in addition to English is desirable
