Job Summary

The Public Health Laboratory is looking for an Assistant Division Director to join the team!

The Assistant Director of the Public Health Laboratory is responsible for Division-wide operations including, oversight division budget development, division planning, and IT strategy. Working as the Public Health Laboratory Assistant Division Director you will:
  • Provide leadership in in laboratory operations to ensure laboratory operates smoothly and supports high quality services.
  • Assure that division financial resources are managed in accordance with department and division policies and procedures for financial management so that division expenditures demonstrate responsible stewardship of the public's resources.
  • Assure that policy, procedures and planning are conducted with the full involvement of all affected parties.
  • Direct the administrative and performance management functions of the division to assure the overall effectiveness of the programs and consistency with statutory mandates and department programs and goals.
  • Implement the division strategic plan so that the laboratory anticipates the needs of the Health Department and other clients related to changes in technology, services, and data analysis and management.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

The following minimum qualifications must be clearly demonstrated on the applicant's resume/application to be considered for the position:
  • Four (4) years of management and administrative experience in a field of science related to public health or environmental health.

Previous experience below is required to be considered a candidate and will be assessed during the interview process:
  • Provision of Laboratory Services.
  • Responsibility for program administration, implementation, evaluation, and strategic planning.
  • Development of program or operational budgets.
  • Experience working and communicating with internal and external stakeholders based on results, findings, and project development.
  • Strategic planning of Information Technology (IT) within a Laboratory setting.

A related bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree may substitute for one (1) year, eighteen (18) months, or two (2) years of experience, respectively.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a public health laboratory leadership position.
  • Experience working on public health issues focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Experience managing budget development.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, develop, and manage the performance of individuals and teams within the laboratory setting.
