Job Summary:

The Cath Lab Technologist assists cardiologists and other medical professionals in performing diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures. This role involves preparing patients for procedures, operating specialized imaging equipment, monitoring patient vitals, and ensuring a sterile environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Preparation:

Prepare patients for cardiac catheterization procedures, including obtaining medical history and ensuring informed consent.

Position patients and prepare the procedural site, ensuring adherence to sterile techniques.

Procedure Assistance:

Assist cardiologists and other medical staff during diagnostic and interventional procedures, such as angioplasty, stent placement, and electrophysiology studies.

Operate and monitor imaging equipment to provide real-time images of the heart and blood vessels.

Administer contrast media and other medications as directed.

Equipment Operation and Maintenance:

Set up, calibrate, and maintain cath lab equipment, including fluoroscopes, defibrillators, and hemodynamic monitoring devices.

Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repairs as needed.

Patient Monitoring:

Continuously monitor patient vital signs and hemodynamic data during procedures.

Recognize and respond to adverse reactions or complications promptly.

Documentation:

Accurately document procedure details, patient data, and any complications or interventions performed.

Maintain thorough and up-to-date patient records in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.

Post-Procedure Care:

Assist in post-procedure recovery and monitoring of patients.

Provide patient education on post-procedure care, medication management, and follow-up appointments.

Quality Assurance and Safety:

Adhere to radiation safety protocols to minimize exposure to patients and staff.

Participate in quality assurance initiatives and contribute to continuous improvement efforts in the cath lab.

Qualifications:

Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology, Cardiovascular Technology, or a related field.

Certification: Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) preferred.

Experience: Previous experience in a cardiac cath lab or interventional radiology setting preferred.

Skills: Proficiency in operating cath lab equipment, strong understanding of cardiac anatomy and physiology, excellent patient care and communication skills, ability to work effectively in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand for extended periods and wear lead aprons for radiation protection.

Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to operate complex equipment.

Capability to lift and move patients and equipment as necessary.
