Why does the job exist?
This position is an entry level position focusing on developing the nursing skills necessary to transition into a primary care nurse position. This position provides but is not limited to nursing services to individuals who are developmentally disabled. Incumbent, nurse may complete assessments of the physical, mental, and emotional needs of individuals; implement health care plans and crisis plans as appropriate; complete documentation; administer medications (to medical fragile individuals and/or other individuals in the program as needed); coordinate medical services with other members of the clinical team; and address any changes in the medical condition of the individual. This position will also provide on-going training to house staff. Position will be required to work shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime and call back hours as needed.

This position is completed by working hands on with the individuals served, direct care staff, and the internal and external teams. This position will focus on developing the nursing skills necessary to transition into a primary care nurse position.

Adult individuals who are developmentally disabled and could display behavioral challenges and/or medical challenges.
Ideal Candidate
Experience working with developmentally disabled individuals
Experience developing and monitoring patient care plans
Experience with electronic charting
Experience working with multidisciplinary teams
Minimum Qualification
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico OR eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements OR Eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico OR a Graduate Nurse with a ¿permit-to-practice¿.
Employment Requirements
This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment is subject to nationwide criminal background check and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Certification from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in the homes of community based consumers with noise levels that can range from moderate to loud. Position requires the ability to lift/push/pull/transfer and/or carry up to 50 pounds without assistance and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Local daily driving for outreach and travel to attend training sessions and meetings with the occasional overnight stay is required. "Specific geographic location for this position will vary depending on agency needs and utilization."
