The New Mexico Department of Health Public Health Division works in conjunction with the Public Health Offices to ensure Health Equity for all our communities by providing access to various programs. Our goal is to create healthier communities through disease prevention/testing/treatment, education, and providing access to everyone regardless of socioeconomic status. We are available to assist community partners with educational programs geared towards various audiences from the youth to the older adult.

Why does the job exist?

This position supports and delivers various public health programs, which may include, but is not limited to: Health Services such as Epidemiology and Response; Tuberculosis; Breast and Cervical Cancer screening and referral; STI screening, treatment and referrals; Immunizations; Family Planning; Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) services; Case Management; Community Outreach; Health Promotion; and Disease Management, through advocacy, adherence to clinical protocols, standing orders, education and policies and procedures. The New Mexico Department of Health is committed to providing population-based health services to assure the health and well-being of all New Mexicans. This position supports the Southeast (SE) Region of New Mexico and assures that quality health services are provided for the population. This position will be responsible for participating in any requirements for the Medicaid Administrative Claiming program as it relates to the primary duties of their job and working with clients and community member throughout Eddy County.

How does it get done?

This position advises on health maintenance and disease prevention. This position administers nursing care to clients in an autonomous environment by utilizing the laws, principle, practices, standing orders, and techniques of professional nursing. This position must make program-specific decisions per protocols, and prioritize client needs accordingly, and must address any issue not covered in protocols with Regional Health Officer/Clinician.

Who are the customers?

This position serves the population of New Mexico and specifically the population of the SE Region especially Artesia. The RN supports the functions of the providers, clerks, and other program staff to achieve common public health goals.

Ideal Candidate

1. Critical thinking skills and functioning autonomously in a clinic setting.
2. Experience in administering immunizations
3. Experience in testing and treating STDs
4. Experienced with application of protocols
5. Spanish speaking would be an advantage

Minimum Qualification

Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico OR eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements OR Eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and three (3) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Unrestricted registered nursing license to work in the state of New Mexico.

Working Conditions

Office setting, exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
