This position will play a crucial role in exploring, innovating, and designing novel user interfaces for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. The Research Assistant will work closely with a diverse and interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers, and will have access to cutting-edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.

THE OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU
  • Conduct experiments from beginning to end, including recruiting and scheduling participants, obtaining informed consent, instructing participants through study procedures, running study procedures, monitoring participant and system behavior, debriefing participants, and ensuring data is uploaded correctly.
  • Plan and schedule research studies, including facility and equipment needs.
  • Communicate with the research team about progress, potential delays, or other study issues.
  • Work with research and operations partners to stage, set up, and maintain lab environments.
  • Coordinate with partners on research study approvals, protocol refinement, IRB approvals, extensions, and other reviews.
  • Troubleshoot and work with hardware and software prototype systems used for data collection.
  • Collaborate with research teams on iterative improvements of prototype systems.
  • Support early experimental design with feedback and literature reviews on a wide field of topics.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
  • Bachelor's degree in psychology (e.g., neuroscience), cognitive science (e.g., artificial intelligence), computer science (e.g., human-computer interaction), engineering (e.g., human-factors), or a closely-related research area.
  • Strong written communication and time management skills.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a research environment involving human subjects.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

A list of bonus qualifications that would make you a star candidate:
  • Advanced degree (Masters)
  • Experience collecting user interaction data, working with related technical equipment (e.g., inertial sensing with IMUs, optical sensing, EMG), and ensuring data quality.
  • Experience analyzing data and/or designing research protocols.
  • Experience debugging prototype hardware and software or specialty instrumentation for collecting physiological data.
  • Familiarity with programming or scripting (e.g., Python, terminal, etc.), or software development.
