Overview:

We are seeking a Multi-Craft Supervisor who will serve as a member of the team in support of maintenance activities at the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) and associated conventional facilities. The supervisor will receive direction from the HFIR Maintenance Group Leader. This position resides in the RRD Maintenance Group in the Research Reactors Division, Neutron Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

In this position you will direct maintenance activities performed by electricians, millwrights, pipefitters, carpenters, and laborers for facilities at ORNL. Craft Supervisors coordinate, plan, and schedule the work of others in maintaining and operating ORNL facilities. They team with craft workers and other support personnel in task preparation and planning to ensure that work is conducted in a safe, secure, compliant, and efficient manner. Craft Supervisors work closely with building occupants to ensure that the facility maintenance and service needs of research and support organizations are met promptly and cost effectively.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Supervise different multi-craft resources as needed in support of other craft supervisors.
  • Coordinate craft resources to support HFIR work including participation in the plan of the day process.
  • Ensure the availability of materials and tools to support maintenance tasks.
  • Apply integrated safety management through HFIR work control process providing safety leadership.
  • Work with other HFIR Craft supervisors and RRD personnel to support administration functions training, time tracking, absence control, and performance evaluation.

Basic Qualifications:
  • A BS degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered (AS degree and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience or a HS diploma and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience).
  • Good interpersonal skills, computer skills, and organizational skills.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a nuclear reactor environment.
  • A working knowledge of accomplishing field maintenance activities in a nuclear plant environment.
  • Previous supervisory or project management experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.


Special Requirements:
  • This position is a Workplace Substance Abuse program (WSAP) testing designed position which requires passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program in which employees are subject to being randomly selected for testing. The occupant of this position will also be subject to an ongoing requirement to report to ORNL any drug-related arrest or conviction or receipt of a positive drug test result.
  • Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.
  • This position requires access to technology that is subject to export control requirements. Successful candidates must be qualified for such access without an export control license.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an HSPD-12 PIV badge.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
