Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or related field. Basic lab skills such as mammalian cell culture, western blotting, and/or RNA. Experience in operating equipment, carrying out test procedures, and/or using special methods for data collation and interpretation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or Biochemistry.

Brief Description of Duties:Within defined test or analytical protocols, operate equipment, carry out test procedures, as well as collate and interpret data using special methods in support of a research project or program for Dr. Wei Yang in the Department of Pathology and Stony Brook Cancer Center. The well-funded Yang laboratory focuses on applying leading-edge multi-level proteomics approaches to understand and prevent cancer metastasis, a malignant process accounting for about 90% of cancer death. Our recent findings suggest that targeting RIPK2 could be a paradigm-shifting therapeutic strategy for substantially extending cancer patients' lives and delaying painful symptoms caused by metastasis (Nature Communications 2022, https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-022-28340-6). The candidate will get exposure to cutting-edge in vitro and in vivo methods including mass spectrometry and multi-omics approaches.

The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving. Ability to demonstrate professional competence in research activities.

Duties:
  • Conduct experiments by providing technical laboratory support, and/or animal handling to assist with experiments conducted.
  • Lab administrative duties: Responsible for all matters including ordering supplies, equipment maintenance oversight, compliance with all rules, regulations, policies, etc.
  • Perform literature search, staying current in the field by reading and discussing the literature and experimental results with the supervisor and/or PI.
  • Collect data, record observations measurements and prepare reports for review of supervisor and or PI.
  • Other duties as assigned.
