Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Position Summary

The employee will be responsible for support of BSL-2 laboratory activities. The employee will be responsible for preparing culture media, reagents, buffers and other solutions. Employee will order, stock and inventory supplies; maintain a clean and sterile lab environment; assist with administration duties such as package shipping and receiving, mail retrieval, answering phones and processing visitors. Employee is responsible for the laboratory support duties such as washing and autoclaving glassware, routine and preventative maintenance of lab equipment. Employee will perform cell culture, media supernatant harvesting, protein purification, western blots, protein quantification, ELISA, maintain B cell hybridomas, monoclonal antibody assessment. Employee will have good communication skills and will report directly to the Director, who is the Principal Investigator as a fully productive, cooperative team member.

This position is grant funded for up to three years. Continuation of employment, while probable, is not guaranteed.

Basic laboratory skills, including sterile technique, cell culture and basic analytical skills.

Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Physical Demands

Lift and carry up to 15 pounds, both assisted and unassisted.
Communicate effectively via telephone, email, and in person to varied stakeholders.
Utilize computer technology for all applications in a manner that meets performance expectations.
Sit or stand for long periods of time and use of repetitive actions during the entire work day.

Organize and assist in implementation of research projects including data collection, assay development, and execution of projects and project management. Perform scientific techniques such as flow cytometry, gel based PCR, cell culture and ELISAs. Conducts complex research experiments as assigned by supervisor. Perform animal work.

Maintains inventory of chemicals, media and other supplies through UGAmart software to ensure sponsored research is not held up due to lack of supplies.
