Minimum Qualifications

Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Field experience required.
  • Candidates with experience in marsh ecology preferred.


Position Summary

The Research Technician in our lab, the selected candidate will conduct fieldwork to collect samples from various ecosystems. They will ensure high-quality sample collection and record accurate data and metadata. Back in the lab, they'll process samples for stable isotope analysis and assist in data management. They will assist the lab manager in facilitating the lab's research, which may include some administrative tasks. In addition, they will serve as a secondary supervisor to undergraduate student workers, serving as a stand in when the lab manager is unable to supervise due to unforeseen circumstances. The candidate will also be given the option to participate in data analysis and in writing publications relevant to the lab's research.

Field work:
  • Lead the development in field work at each of our research sites to collect ecological data.
  • Provide training and mentoring for undergraduate students.
  • Identify species, collect biological samples, keep organized records, and ensure equipment is well-maintained and operational.
  • Responsible for strict adherence to safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Making informed decisions and tackling field challenges to overcome obstacles encountered during data collection and fieldwork
  • Facilitate group fieldwork initiatives and collaborate closely with other researchers

Laboratory Work:
  • Support the laboratory with general maintenance activities, development and validation of new procedures, as well as maintaining and updating existing procedures.
  • Supervising the processing of samples for stable isotope analysis within UGA rules and regulations.
  • Meticulous sample preparation and sophisticated interpretation of stable isotope data to unravel complex food web interactions and trophic structures from our research collections
  • Collaborate closely with the laboratory responsible for sample analysis, ensuring seamless coordination between fieldwork and subsequent laboratory procedures

  • Provide general administrative support by assisting the PI and lab manager in running the lab.
  • Support scheduling and coordinating equipment maintenance and calibration, as well as managing sample storage and disposal procedures
