Position Summary

The incumbent will join a poplar functional genomics research team to investigate molecular regulation of various agronomy traits. The primary responsibilities are Agrobacterium-mediated transformation and regeneration of Populus, micropropagation, and transgenic plant maintenance. Additional duties include assistance with molecular cloning, genotyping of transgenic plants, and other routine molecular analyses, tissue processing, data entry, equipment maintenance, and other lab chores. This employee is also needed to assist senior lab personnel with preparation of research progress report and other lab reports when appropriate.

This position is grant-funded for a year and may be renewed for up to a total of three years.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Experience in plant tissue culture.
  • Attention to detail when handling research materials and routine/recurring procedures.
  • Careful hands, patience, and ability to work independently after training, use good judgment, and trouble-shoot the technical activities.
  • Basic computer skills.

  • Withstand hot and humid conditions for greenhouse-related work.
  • Work with hazardous chemicals.
