The University of Minnesota's Institute on the Biology of Aging and Metabolism is an interdisciplinary team aimed at advancing research on the fundamental biology of aging. Our goal is to discover ways to therapeutically target aging, which will extend healthspan.

Primary responsibilities:
Specific technical/bench-work research (60%):
- Experiment design and breeding to generate mouse cohorts of specific genetic strains.
- Mouse handling, including ip injections, survival surgery and tissue harvest.
- Independent data analysis and presentation of final results
- Keep detailed records of all experiments and procedures in laboratory notebooks, databases, spreadsheets, and web-based applications.
General laboratory management duties (30%):
- Prepare media, enzymes, and solutions under sterile conditions in large quantities.
- Work under the Lab Manager to manage day to day laboratory operations by coordinating shipping and receiving, ordering supplies, inventory updates and general laboratory organization
- Follow established biological, chemical and physical safety procedures and train new personnel
Other duties as assigned (10%):
- Help monitor and train undergraduate student workers.
- Requires the ability to work occasional weekend hours
* This is a 75%-time position.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- BS or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years
- Extensive experience with mice, in all areas of their use for experiments.
- Experience with multi-parameter flow cytometry on primary mouse immune cells
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in genotyping and tissue culture work
- S trong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills; comfort in working in a team
- Willingness to perform mouse work within BSL2 and BSL3 levels
