The Department of Fish and Wildlife's Salton Sea Program is seeking a motivated individual to work as an Environmental Scientist located at our Inland Deserts Region Field offices located in Riverside and Imperial Counties. The Salton Sea Management Program is a multi-agency program formed alongside the Department of Water Resources to meet the State Water Resources Control Board Order 2017-0134, which is aimed at minimizing public health and environmental concerns related to the shrinking Salton Sea. Under the close supervision of the Department's Salton Sea Program Senior Environmental Scientist Supervisor, the incumbent performs operations, monitoring, and management duties to support the implementation of the Salton Sea Management Program, including the operations, monitoring, and management of approximately 29,800 acres of habitat and dust suppression projects and monitoring associated with SSMP's Monitoring Implementation Plan.

Working Conditions
Ability to use a computer keyboard for several hours each day; complete office tasks that require sitting, standing, and walking to other locations; attend meetings and conference calls; visit project sites requiring driving vehicle, traveling up to three or more hours each way and sometimes including early mornings and late nights; occasional overnight travel to reach some meeting or field locations; hiking over uneven and possibly steep or wet terrain at project sites for reconnaissance and biological monitoring; may include operation or being a passenger on a boat, ATV or other off road vehicles; occasional travel of two or more days per week. May have to work in variable temperature gradients, ranging from 50 degrees Fahrenheit during winter months to 120 degrees Fahrenheit during summer months. Areas include steep, uneven, wet, and rugged terrain within desert, upland, agricultural, riparian, and flooded pond environments. A valid California Driver's License is required. This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule depending on operational needs.This position is anticipated to be 50% field and 50% office work.
This position will be located at the Bermuda Dunes Office

Special Requirements
Field work can be in adverse weather and hiking over rough terrain with no vehicle access. Must possess a valid California Driver's license. Project site visits may require driving a 4x4 vehicle, All Terrain Vehicle and/or Off Highway Vehicle with travel up to three or more hours each way and sometimes including early mornings and late nights; may include operation or being a passenger on a boat or other watercraft and occasional travel to Sacramento may be required.
