Position Overview

The University of North Texas Alumni Association is seeking a part-time Senior Alumni Communications Specialist to support the communication and execution of our new online community platform, North Texas Network. The Specialist will play a crucial role in managing communications related to the transition to our new membership model and ensuring consistent messaging across all platforms.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field and two years of experience in communication, content creation, or related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to conceptualize, write and edit strategic, accurate and concise content for university audiences.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, conduct multiple tasks and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to visually inspect print and online copy when self-editing or editing the copy of others.
  • Works effectively within a team and effectively works closely with other staff, faculty, and students toward a common goal.
  • Extensive knowledge of spelling, grammar, punctuation and Associated Press and Chicago Manual styles.
  • Knowledge of writing styles and guidelines for various media formats and ability to create, coordinate and edit copy for each format (print, digital/social media, video, broadcast, etc.).
  • Understanding of institutional strategy (or ability to quickly assimilate) and ability to integrate the strategy into modes of communication.
  • Ability to supervise and coordinate the work of others.
  • Knowledge of and ability to research industry best practices to assist the division, college or unit in aligning strategies for UNT publications (print and digital) with University strategy and guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
  • Experience in the communications field.
  • Experience with project management.
  • Knowledge of marketing principles.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Knowledge of AP style.
  • Experience editing copy, including creative editing, fact-checking and proofing for grammar/style.
  • Detail-oriented.

Job Duties:
  • Play a crucial role in the development, implementation, and official launch of an online engagement platform for alumni.
  • Assist in the coordination and communication of messages relevant to a shifting membership model for the UNT Alumni Association.
  • Collaborate on content creation for social media, web, e-newsletters, and other communications collateral.
  • Work closely with internal teams to ensure messaging alignment and timely communication of updates across all platforms.
  • Analyze and report on engagement metrics, using data-driven insights to refine and optimize communication strategies.

Flexible hours, 19 hours per week, with occasional evening or weekend work as needed.
