The University of Virginia School of Law seeks a Senior Assistant Dean for Career Development to lead its Career Development offices.

The Law School's robust, comprehensive, student-focused Career Development program is a critical component of UVA Law's consistent success in both of these areas.
A senior leader at the Law School and an integral member of the Law School's student services team, the Senior Assistant Dean for Career Development is responsible for managing the Office of Private Practice as well as providing strategic leadership and oversight of the Mortimer Caplin Public Service Center and the Office of Judicial Clerkships. These three Career Development teams work collaboratively and provide year-round support to approximately 900 JD students each year, as well as to graduates of the Law School, helping them identify and construct their legal career paths and build their professional identity.

Responsibilities include:
Strategic Vision / Planning:
- Understand current legal markets and stay abreast of trends to work proactively in anticipation of upcoming market shifts.
- Embrace a holistic view of legal career development, responsive to students' changing needs and interests at varying stages of career development.
- Foster and train high-performing, collaborative teams.
- Cultivate teams who welcome and work with diverse constituencies, and who are committed to supporting students as they develop their professional identities and enter the legal profession.
- Manage the employees and resources of the Office of Private Practice, the Public Service Center and the Office of Judicial Clerkships.
- Responsible for data collection, analysis and reporting of employment outcomes and other metrics.
- Oversee design and delivery of personalized and group career strategy and support services to J.D. students and recent graduates of the Law School. This includes one-on-one counseling, group programming, and digital and print resources.
- Personally counsel students and lead group programs and panels.
- Oversee successful design, development, and execution of on-grounds interview programs, mock interview programs, networking events, and clerkship application processes.
- Reinforce the Law School's commitment to cultivating lawyers committed to professionalism, integrity, and service.
- Create and nurture relationships with local, regional, national and international legal employers.
- Represent Career Development and the Law School to alumni, prospective and admitted students, professional organizations (NALP) and peer schools.
- Collaborate with other student services offices at the Law School to provide an excellent student experience and to prepare students for success after law school.
Required Education and Experience:
- JD from an ABA-accredited law school plus 9 years' relevant experience.
- Demonstrated record of successful and progressively responsible leadership in legal practice, legal recruiting, or higher education administration.
- Previous supervisory or program management experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with legal recruiting strongly preferred.
- Experience in higher education, particularly legal education, a plus.
