Department Summary

The mission of the information and technology department is to provide leadership in information and learning technologies by deploying secure and accurate infrastructures. We achieve this by developing effective and reliable information systems and excellent support services by partnering with our constituents to ensure technology resources are applied effectively and efficiently which increase quality and access for the university community.

Position Overview

The Sr. Director, Information Technology has oversight and accountability for the successful delivery of IT initiatives, services, and solutions for the University of North Texas at Dallas ("UNTD"), including its main campus and College of Law. This position reports directly to the UNT System Enterprise CIO and is responsible for campus-wide leadership of all information technology functions.
This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to align IT initiatives with business objectives. The Sr. Director plays a critical role in developing IT plans that supports the University's strategic plan and closely aligns with enterprise-wide objectives, manages a team of IT professionals supporting the mission and operational needs of UNTD, and helps analyze, prioritize, and manage the implementation of key UNTD IT projects and initiatives. Moreover, the Senior Director upholds adherence to applicable policies and regulations concerning IT governance, security, and service operations.

The Sr. Director is part of the UNT System Enterprise IT leadership team and is closely involved in shaping future enterprise-wide technology strategic plans, standards development and implementation, and overall IT policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience (8+ years) in IT leadership roles, with a track record of successfully managing and delivering complex IT projects and initiatives.
  • Experience in strategic planning, budgeting, and resource management.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing business and IT needs and requirements.
  • Strong technical background in areas such as infrastructure management, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and enterprise systems.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Lead, mentor, and coach a team of IT resources including operational support.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, encouraging teamwork and professional development.
  • Set performance goals and objectives for the team and provide regular feedback and performance evaluations.

Job Duties:
  • Develop and execute the institutional IT strategy, roadmap, and budget in collaboration with senior management and other stakeholders.
  • Provide IT leadership, guidance, and support to senior management and other stakeholders, and communicate IT vision, goals, and achievements.
  • Lead and facilitate the IT Steering Committee, which comprises senior executives and stakeholders who provide strategic guidance and governance for IT projects at UNTD.
  • Lead and participate in IT projects and initiatives ensuring alignment with the organization's strategic objectives and priorities.
  • Lead and manage the IT department, including hiring, training, mentoring, and evaluating IT staff, and ensuring adequate staffing levels and skills.
  • In close coordination with UNT System IT, oversee the implementation and maintenance of IT systems and services, including infrastructure, network, applications, databases, cloud, and security.
  • Ensure the availability, reliability, scalability, and performance of IT systems and services, and manage the resolution of IT issues and incidents.
  • Establish and monitor IT performance metrics, service level agreements, and customer satisfaction surveys, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with UNT System Enterprise IT policies, standards, regulations, and best practices, and participate in regular audits and risk assessments.
  • In close coordination with UNT System IT, manage IT vendor relationships, contracts, and negotiations, and evaluate and procure IT products and services.
  • Stay abreast of emerging IT trends, technologies, and best practices, and assess their applicability and feasibility for the organization.
