As a Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) you will have the opportunity to:
  • Conduct planning and preparedness activities required to maintain and build the emergency response capabilities of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU)
  • Ensure that the ERU has immediate access to an appropriate inventory of emergency response equipment and that the equipment (including vehicle) is properly maintained
  • Consult with a Senior Industrial Hygienist in an ongoing assessment of health and safety procedures used in carrying out emergency response work and development of recommendations for improvements potentially including new policies and procedures
  • Serve as a project manager and team leader to set up and carry out the larger, more complex, and/or sensitive emergency removal actions
  • Assist local, state, and federal agencies after major disasters, including wildfires and flooding, to remove household hazardous waste and other hazardous substances found on parcels and properties
  • Participate in the development of regional and State strategic plans for terrorism response and remediation
Desirable Qualifications We Look For:
  • Experience in developing and implementing sampling and analysis plans
  • Experience in emergency planning and preparedness
  • Emergency response experience
  • Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations
  • Act in Lead capacity as Project Manager to review staff work and/or oversee fieldwork
  • Experience in mentoring or training new staff
