The incumbent will be joining the Northern Region's Timberland Conservation and Fire Resiliency Program. The incumbent will be the Department lead for large and complex habitat restoration and watershed-scale conservation projects including Habitat Conservation Plans, Natural Communities Conservation Plans, Incidental Take Permits, Long-term Streambed alteration agreements and Safe Harbor Agreements in forest ecosystems within Trinity, Humboldt, Del Norte, Siskiyou and Modoc counties. Lead, conduct and coordinate the Department's review of timber harvesting plans, non-industrial timber management plans, working forest management plans. Coordinate the regional establishment of monitoring priorities by developing and coordinating monitoring protocols, relevant database creation, monitoring questions, methodologies and site-specific monitoring actions to assess the effectiveness of Lake and Streambed Agreements, Incidental Take Permits,Forest Practice Rules, and other regulatory actions. Lead, conduct, coordinate and facilitate the implementation of critical and/or sensitive scientific investigations and studies for large restoration, habitat improvement and water conservation projects for the protection or recovery of aquatic and terrestrial species and to assess implementation and effectiveness of Department recommendations and the Forest Practice Rules. Lead Environmental Scientists and Scientific Aids to collect project data.

Working Conditions
Ability to use a computer and standard word processing software. Ability to drive a 4-wheel-drive vehicle and all-terrain vehicle. Spend approximately 50% of time indoors processing documents, and the other 50% of time outdoors in rugged terrain, hiking long distances over uneven and possibly steep or wet terrain, hot and freezing conditions, experience biting insects and some overnight camping. Attend meetings and hearings, work with staff statewide to complete work assignments. Travel may be required; may require travel throughout the State including overnight travel, early mornings, late nights. A valid Driver's License is required to operate a state vehicle. The position may require the incumbent to wear a uniform identifying the employee as CDFW staff.

Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

Understands the ecological principles that guide conservation and project review for trustee resources. Experience with environmental permitting related to CEQA, CESA, Fish and Game Code, California Forest Practices Act, Public Resources Code, and the California Code of Regulations. Implements strategies for conflict resolution, time management, strategic planning, and succession planning. Registered Professional Forester is desirable but not required.

Reviews, understands, correctly applies and articulates environmental laws, regulations, and State and Department Policies. Provides coordination, timely analysis of information and recommendations to other Department staff, managers, units, branches, and Regions on issues of regional or statewide significance.

Analyzes and solves problems within realistic time frames. Exercises discretion and a high degree of independent judgment.
