The Climate Indicators and Site Assessment Section (CISAS) of the Air and Site Assessment and Climate Indicators Branch in the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) provides scientific support and technical assistance to entities within the California Environmental Protection Agency, other State and local programs, nongovernmental organizations, and others relating to environmental challenges that impact human or ecological health. The Section: (1) provides consultative services to the California Regional Water Quality Control Boards and local governmental entities on health risks from exposure to hazardous materials at contaminated sites undergoing cleanup; (2) develops environmental indicators, including those that track climate change and its impacts on California; (3) provides technical consultation on ecotoxicological impacts, such as on risk assessments on pesticides used to combat invasive species; (4) develops health-based criteria for use at contaminated sites, such as health guidance values for assessing risk at proposed or existing California school sites, and soil and soil-gas values for screening assessments at contaminated sites; (5) maintains an online chemical database, a searchable compilation of toxicity values developed or adopted by OEHHA, and related documents; and (6) provides technical support to special projects, as requested.

Under direction of the Environmental Program Manager I (Supervisory), Chief, CISAS, the Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist), as lead person or as a member of a team, provides scientific expertise in researching, assessing, analyzing and presenting data for developing and updating indicators tracking climate change and its impacts, particularly on California Tribes. These indicators are presented in periodic Indicators of Climate Change in California reports and related work products. The incumbent acts as a consultant to other technical staff, management, and other agencies on issues related to the impacts of climate change to Tribes and serves as the primary contact person for information dissemination and outreach. The Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) independently identifies problems, develops courses of action, and conducts critical and/or sensitive scientific investigations and studies related to tracking the impacts of climate change.

Working Conditions
OEHHA has a hybrid work environment that includes work in an office setting in a high-rise building and telework at home. Office arranged in cubicles, not all of which have direct natural illumination. Time critical assignments are part of the workload. Prolonged sitting while reviewing scientific articles, reports and generating scientific documents and reports is required. Repetitive motion in using office equipment occurs. Travel to off-site meetings may be required as necessary. Participation in teleconferences and webinars is required. May be required to travel to other OEHHA locations for business related needs as necessary.
