Do you want to work with a diverse team of individuals tasked with the monitoring and sustainable management of important commercial and recreational marine invertebrate fisheries in California's marine waters? Are you a creative individual who can bring a new perspective and innovative solutions to support management of invertebrate fisheries? The Invertebrate Management Program is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) with a strong background and experience in fisheries management, fisheries policy, and scientific methods.

This position will serve as a lead for coordination and recovery of endangered invertebrate species. In this role, the incumbent will oversee Section 6 grants, represent the Department on endangered species recovery committees, and participate in fieldwork supporting restoration. Additionally, this position will lead development of environmental documents, management plans, and recovery plans for California's invertebrate fisheries pursuant to the Marine Life Management Act and lead development of supporting regulatory documents pursuant to the Administrative Procedures Act. This position will also develop and implement methods and techniques for resource and fishery assessments of invertebrate species and statistically analyze, interpret, and evaluate invertebrate fishery data to support fishery management.

Working Conditions
Ability to work in both an office and field environment (ocean vessels and SCUBA diving), use standard computer equipment, and lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work some weekends and travel as needed. Must have a valid driver's license.

Special Requirements
The position will require Department diver authorization. The ideal candidate should have scientific diver (AAUS equivalent) training plus experience conducting biological surveys in California kelp forests; or recreational diving certification(s) with at least 50 lifetime dives in California coastal waters. The ideal candidate should have boat operator experience (MOTC preferred).
