Summary of Position
The Senior Intellectual Property Attorney will report to the Vice President, Intellectual Property, and partner cross-functionally with the leaders across Curium's global businesses.
Location
St. Louis Westport office with responsibilities to provide intellectual property legal services to Curium's global Research and Development, Business Development and Licensing, and Mergers and Acquisitions teams.

Summary of Position
The Senior Intellectual Property Attorney will report to the Vice President, Intellectual Property, and partner cross-functionally with the leaders across Curium's global businesses.

St. Louis Westport office with responsibilities to provide intellectual property legal services to Curium's global Research and Development, Business Development and Licensing, and Mergers and Acquisitions teams.
Essential Functions
- Counsel global business management on all intellectual property issues impacting their respective functional responsibilities.
- Advise Curium's global product development teams on legal, intellectual property and freedom-to-operate issues related to new product development.
- Develop strategies interplaying FDA marketing and orphan drug exclusivities, patent protection and patent term extensions to procure and strengthen and extend exclusivity of new products.
- Conduct legal due diligence reviews of potential acquisition and licensing opportunities, identifying risks and mitigations and negotiating and drafting agreement documents to formalize transactions.
- Partner with outside counsel in responding to third-party allegations, procuring global intellectual property assets, asserting Curium intellectual property rights against other parties, and identifying strategies to challenge validity of third-party patents that may impact Curium product development.
- Draft and negotiate business agreements with third parties including assignment, collaborative research and development, consulting, licensing, material transfer, non-disclosure, and other agreement documents as needed by business clients.
- Conduct training on intellectual property matters and employee confidentiality obligations.
- Draft guidelines and documents for implementing company policies.
- Review and support drafting of company press releases, presentations, training courses and product promotional materials in compliance with FDA regulations and guidance documents.
- Must maintain operational compliance with US and international regulatory agencies and guidelines (i.e. FDA, EU, HC, TGA, PIC/S, ISO, USP, NRC, cGMP, etc.).
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate degree is required. Active membership and in good standing with a state bar association. Admitted to the USPTO Patent Bar.
- 5 or more relevant years of experience in transactional areas of patent practice in a corporate or law firm setting with some experience preferably working with or in pharmaceutical, chemical or biological industries.
- Experience in drafting and prosecuting patent and trademark applications.
- Experience in drafting, negotiating, and providing advice on transactional matters including research and licensing arrangements.
- Experience in FDA regulations and prosecution of international patent applications is preferred.
- Self-starter, energetic, positive, analytical, and able to drive results, and have a proven ability to work as part of a cross-functional team.
- Exhibit the highest integrity, excellent judgment, and the ability to proactively recognize risks and challenges, devise strategies to address risks and achieve goals, and effectively communicate about such issues with senior management, regionally and globally.
- Ability to negotiate intellectual property agreements and provide business-oriented solutions to complex problems.
- Highly motivated and experienced in successfully handling multiple projects, often with short deadlines, and ability to work independently and prioritize responsibly with minimal supervision.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Working Conditions
- This position will work in typical office conditions with extensive time using personal computer equipment.
- May be required to sit or stand for long periods of time while performing duties.
- Close attention to detail required.
- Willingness to work in a team-based environment.
- The position deals with many deadlines. Due to the short turnaround time of deadlines and limited time, overtime, weekend work and holiday work is sometimes required.
