Description

Burns & McDonnell is seeking well-rounded and self-driven Senior Mechanical Engineering to join our Energy global practice. This position will be responsible for the design and evaluation of mechanical systems associated with coal and natural gas-fired generation facilities as well as associates support facilities.

The candidate will be responsible for front-end planning/preliminary design/code analysis; final design including bidding document and specification preparation; construction administration including review of compliance submittals and resolution of construction issues; and interfacing with Burns & McDonnell project managers, equipment suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, detailers, and designers. This person will perform work that involves conventional engineering practices but may involve a variety of complex features.

Responsibilities:
  • Executes complex assignments related to electrical power generating station design requiring the use of advanced techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment and/or technological methods.
  • Directs coordination with clients and other external contacts. Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced staff members.
  • Regularly meets and corresponds with clients or outside personnel.
  • Responsible for project planning, budgeting, and scheduling.
  • Responsible for project kickoff including development of scope of work, site investigation, data collection, project budgeting, project scheduling, and project setup.
  • During design phase, responsible for design oversight and project coordination of design team, interface with client personnel, monthly progress reporting, budget updates and forecasting.
  • During construction phase, responsible for coordination with site manager to respond to RFIs and questions.
  • Will coordinate with Department Managers to assign an engineering team.
  • Must develop familiarity with internal and client standards and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering a plus.
  • Professional Engineering License strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience related to electrical power generation station design preferred
  • Previous consulting engineering experience strongly preferred.
  • Project development and project management experience a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness and ability to utilize IT to streamline work processes and approaches.
  • The position requires the ability to effectively multi-task and manage numerous projects/tasks simultaneously, frequently within an aggressive and compressed schedule.
  • The ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial, as well as the ability to maintain the project schedule and achieve target due dates.
