The MNIT DOC team runs many unique applications that manage the information and security of the department, supporting 4,500 employees across 10 prisons and 50 field offices located throughout the state.

Job Summary

As a Senior Solution Support Engineer, you will be responsible for for the stability and efficient operation of a number of large, complex and varied IT solution (application and device) portfolios on behalf of the Minnesota Department of Corrections, Clemency Review Commission, Ombudsman and Cannabis Expungement Board.

This position is temporary and includes full state fringe benefits; it is anticipated to last 1year.

This is a hybrid position and will requires an employee to be onsite at the work location, traveling to various Correctional facilities up to 20% of the time :
  • Telework for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St. Paul, Minnesota.
  • Only candidates located in Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are telework eligible.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume. Resume tips here. :

Position requires a minimum of four (4) years of IT related experience in COTS (Commercial off the Shelf)/SAAS (Software As a Service) application/software support.

Experience must include:
  • Active Directory/server support.
  • Networking and internet working protocols.
  • Troubleshooting, day to day operational support of applications (COTS/SaaS) and teleconferencing devices/platforms (WebEx/Teams/Zoom).
  • Experience in managing and prioritizing demand, including overseeing intake processes and serving as a point of escalation from multiple intake points.
  • Strong collaboration skills in a multi-tiered IT support model including vendor collaboration.
  • Experience in guiding and mentoring lower-level technical resources.
  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.
  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.


A master's degree in Information Technology or an IT related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR an IT related bachelor's degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR an IT related associate's degree substitutes for one (1) year.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with device installation, configuration, and support, including printers, teleconferencing systems, and smartboards,
  • Experience with ticketing system reporting tools (such as Helix, ServiceNow, ZenDesk, Jira).
  • Strong understanding of SDLC, ITIL, Incident Management, and Project Management methodologies.
  • Familiarity with server operating systems (such as Microsoft), client software delivery/configuration tools (such as Group PolicyObjects, Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager), firewalls, and networking.

Physical Requirements

Requires moving / lifting devices and technologies such as desktops, monitors, laptops, video conferencing devices and miscellaneous equipment from multiple locations. Desk to desk or from one agency site to another. Lifting devices on to storage shelves above head (40 lbs.) and being able to gain access or crawl under desks.
