Allianz Life Controller's organization is looking for an accounting policy professional with project management capabilities to join the accounting policy team. The team is responsible for setting and evaluating accounting policies, interpreting and developing guidance on emerging accounting standards and providing consultation and advice on technical accounting issues affecting Allianz Life. As trusted business advisors, the team is highly valued for playing a critical role in driving our strategy by advising on new business initiatives including product development, new investment strategies and business combinations, as well as positioning us for future accounting changes. These functions include responsibility for monitoring new accounting guidance, partnering with several business stakeholders, understanding underlying transactions, coordinating with external auditors and Allianz Group accounting policy on insurance, financial instrument and other accounting matters, researching technical accounting guidance and documenting conclusions in memos and accounting policies to ensure Allianz Life compliance. You'll have the opportunity to drive change in a fast-paced setting, while learning about a variety of topics, creating new ideas, developing relationships with colleagues on other teams and overseas, and presenting project status to senior and executive leadership of the Company.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with finance partners and other internal clients to understand the business and provide ongoing guidance on new business initiatives
  • Work independently to research and analyze proposed and/or completed transactions, and author technical accounting memorandums documenting those transactions, primarily on IFRS and Statutory accounting bases
  • Take an active role in the implementation of new accounting standards and the development of accounting policies
  • Monitor, assess and communicate the effects of proposed Statutory, IFRS and US GAAP accounting standard changes and drive the implementation of adopted accounting standard changes
  • Work in a fast paced, challenging and collaborative team environment with multiple and competing priorities
  • Work closely with external auditors to address the accounting for significant transactions
  • Communicate with senior and executive leadership on technical accounting matters and other projects
  • Deliver high customer satisfaction in responding to routine and ad hoc external auditor, regulator, examiner, Allianz SE and internal customer requests
  • Execute projects timely by managing project teams and coordinating completion of documentation related to those projects with cross-functional teams
  • Concisely communicate status and other information about projects or other responsibilities to manager, work team, project team, and Company leadership

Accounting Policy Team:
  • Sets accounting policy for the entity and performs accounting research for projects, new products, new investments, business combinations, contracts and new IFRS and Statutory accounting standards
  • Provides critical leadership within project team/working groups to facilitate understanding between multiple business areas and recognize upstream/downstream impacts of decisions, deliverables and results
  • Support business partners and the Department on day-to-day accounting and reporting related issues
  • Supports key financial relationships with regulators, examiners and auditors
  • Leads both small projects and large, cross-functional projects that impact accounting (i.e. project planning, scheduling, monitoring, implementation, documentation, and communication)


Experience and EducationMinimum requirements:
  • 2-3 years of relevant work experience required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to comfortably present to senior leadership.
  • Understanding of accounting concepts and authoritative guidance
  • Up-to-date knowledge of latest accounting and reporting standards or ability to gain knowledge quickly
  • Knowledge of technical accounting for financial institutions, emphasis on insurance or financial instruments preferred
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking and analytical skills, ability to work independently and self-motivated
  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Resolves inquiries, requests, and problems independently, or with some management supervision
  • Ability to effectively resolve conflicts
  • Basic understanding of internal controls
