Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Under the supervision of the Chief Psychiatrist or his/her designee, is responsible for the Social Work Services of the Mobile Crisis Unit (MCU). Acts as Clinical Supervisor, knowledgeable in psychiatric assessment, crisis intervention techniques, and substance use disorders. Provides guidance and direction to staff of the MCU.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provides clinical and administrative supervision to the Social Work staff of the Mobile Crisis Unit.
• Ensures adequate coverage and continuity of patient care at all times.
• Coordinates staff activities to meet the needs of the MCU and other programs of the Departments of Psychiatry and Social Work.
• Participates in the formulation of standards, policies, and procedures for orientation, supervision, and in-service training of Social Work staff.
• Provide orientation to new staff and update incumbent staff on changes in policy, procedures, or standards.
• Knowledge about departmental, facility, network, city, state, federal, and JCAHO standards and regulations.
• Monitors staff activities to ensure compliance with all the above, e.g. supervise the activities and documentation by paraprofessionals.
• Provides information about and acts as a linkage to available community resources.
• Ensures that staff documents all interventions and continuing care plans in the patient's medical record by departmental and hospital policies.
• Collaborates in completing performance evaluations for staff.
• Gather information needed to complete monthly statistical reports for both the Hospital and the NYC Department of Mental Health.
• Conducts and/or attends individual, unit, departmental, intra/inter-hospital, and community meetings as mandated by the administration.
• Home visits (Visits patients' homes as needed/indicated by the mobile crisis team).
• Supervises social work interns as required by the Social Work Department.
• Reviews Medical Records for MCU and other areas as indicated by the Social Work Department
• Participates in the Hospital/Departmental Emergency Response to internal and external disasters.
• Performs other duties assigned by supervisor as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid license as an LCSW issued by the NYSED, and two (2) years of supervisory experience, as described above
