The Builder Tools organization within Amazon Web Services (AWS) at Amazon is looking for talented engineers to join the H2C team.

In this role, you will have a direct impact on the AWS technology ecosystem. You have the opportunity to join a dynamic team of technology leaders who are working on building a globally distributed service. This service is designed to be highly scalable and resilient to failures, allowing Amazon to effectively meet the increasing demand for its services. This service is built in AWS and is currently hosted in all 26 Amazon regions, with more regions being added in the future. As Amazon's growth and evolving customer needs became apparent, it became necessary to expand our systems to better align with these changes. The platform that once met Amazon's requirements no longer sufficed. You will have the opportunity to work on a cutting-edge cloud architecture specifically designed to meet the demands of the future. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with various teams at Amazon, including those focused on storage and compute. Together, you will work towards building services that efficiently deliver essential, mission-critical data in a timely, accurate, and reliable manner. We will subject your architecture to stress testing due to the significant growth of AWS, Amazon, our subsidiaries, and external customers.

Key job responsibilities

As Software Development Engineer, you will:

- Help design and build cutting edge services that are at the foundation of AWS and all Amazon services, and enable you and your fellow AWS Engineers to operate safely at high speed and wide scale.

- Work on critical, highly complex customer problems that will span multiple AWS services and teams.

- Deep dive on existing technical issues like scale-out patterns, resilience and extensibility to provide comprehensive solutions.

- Deliver high quality engineering artifacts (designs, code, tests, monitoring) that will model engineering for the team.

- Make technology decisions that meet business challenges while balancing long term and short term needs.

- Mentor teammates on engineering best practices.

- Work closely with multiple teams to achieve technical targets.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

- Experience programming with at least one software programming language

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

- Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers

- Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations

- Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through actual launch of the project

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs.

- Experience with distributed computing, Linux, Docker, and Java

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $115,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
