Software Engineer, Systems Responsibilities


  • Research, design, develop, and test operating systems-level software, compilers, and network distribution software for user interfaces, infrastructure, and/or tools supporting applications.

  • Have industry experience working on a range of ranking, classification, recommendation, and optimization problems, e.g. payment fraud, click-through or conversion rate prediction, click-fraud detection, ads/feed/search ranking, text/sentiment classification, collaborative filtering/recommendation, or spam detection.

  • Work closely with product and design teams to build new and innovative application experiences.

  • Work on problems of moderate scope and implement custom user interfaces using the latest programming techniques.

  • Receive general instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new projects or assignments, build reusable software components for interfacing with back-end platforms.

  • Demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

  • Resolve a variety of issues by analyzing and optimizing UI and infrastructure application code for quality, efficiency, and performance.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Requires a Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Software, Computer Engineering, Applied Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, or related field.

  • Requires completion of a university-level course, research project, internship, or thesis in the following:

  • 1. Coding in one of the following industry-standard languages: C, C++, Java, or C#

  • 2. Python, PHP, or Haskell

  • 3. Relational databases and SQL

  • 4. Software development tools: Code editors (VIM or Emacs), and revision control systems (Subversion, GIT, or Perforce)

  • 5. Linux, UNIX, or other *nix-like OS as evidenced by file manipulation, advanced commands, and shell scripting

  • 6. Core web technologies: HTML, CSS, or JavaScript

  • 7. Build highly-scalable performant solutions

  • 8. Data processing, programming languages, databases, networking, operating systems, computer graphics, or human-computer interaction

  • 9. Applying algorithms and core computer science concepts to real world systems as evidenced by recognizing and matching patterns from different areas of computer science in production systems.
