As an R&D Systems Integration Engineer, you will apply a broad variety of engineering subject areas to integrate, maintain, and improve the Johnson & Johnson OTTAVA Robotic System. This cross-functional role lies at the intersection of hardware, software, robotics, operations, and clinical engineering. This individual will also support test design and execution including calibration, characterization, and engineering testing in coordination with the various technical teams of the OTTAVA System. Applicants should have experience working with complex mechatronic systems, but do not need to have a technical background in med-tech or robotics. This is a phenomenal opportunity for someone with an interest in robotics to gain deep technical and medical industry knowledge, while providing a critical service to the OTTAVA program!

What You'll Do:

  • Identify, root cause, and resolve novel issues that arise across the R&D systems by working across mechanical, electrical, software, robotic controls, and clinical teams.
  • Characterize and de-risk the design from prototype to subsystem level, analyze test results and provide meaningful insights or conclusions.
  • Integrate prototype systems/subsystems across multi-functional subject areas.
  • Implement, evaluate, and demonstrate HW/SW proof of concept.
  • Drive continuous improvement in integration activities and processes such as testing, calibration, issue handling, system upgrades and feature roll-out, design feedback, etc.
  • Support development of test methods and fixtures for system/subsystem integration, test, calibration, and transfer to manufacturing.
  • Support clinical and human factors teams to test new features in simulation and implement in labs.


Qualifications

Required Education:

  • BS in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science) or other applicable technical degree.


Required Skills & Experience:

  • 2+ years of engineering experience.
  • 2+ years of experience programming and modifying existing code with C++ and Python.
  • 1+ years of development experience in a Linux environment.
  • Fundamental understanding across software, controls, robotics, mechanical, and electrical engineering. Depth in one or more of the above subject areas, with ability to quickly come up to speed in new technical areas.
  • Experience partitioning and decomposing sophisticated engineering problems into solvable problems.


Other Requirements:

  • Ability to travel up to 10% domestic US and Internationally, with overnight stay.
  • Ability to work in Santa Clara, CA.


Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • MS in Engineering, or other applicable technical degree, with 1+ years of systems integration experience.
  • Understanding of engineering concepts such as system architecture, implementation, testing, and maintenance.
  • Hands-on experience with electromechanical or robotic systems.


Work Environment:

  • This position operates in a laboratory/assembly environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.


Physical Demands:

  • May require lifting of up to 50 lbs. and operation of hoisting equipment for heavier loads
  • May require prolonged periods of standing, bending, sitting, and kneeling during system assembly


The anticipated salary range for this position in the Santa Clara, CA area is $101,000 to $162,725.
