Summary

Position Summary

Education Technicians provide academic instruction and behavioral support in our year-round special purpose schools. Under the supervision of the Special Education Teacher, the BCBA and the Director, the Special Ed Tech III-RBT will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team which includes special education teachers, psychologists, behavior analysts, occupational therapists, speech and language pathologists, physical therapists, psychiatrists, and nurses to design and provide services that support the achievement of academic, behavioral, and daily living goals of students in accordance with the Individual Treatment Plan, IEP and/or behavior support plan. The Special Ed Tech III-RBT is actively involved in providing instructional services and behavioral treatment to meet the required academic, behavioral and daily living needs of our students, with a focus on helping children learn new ways of coping with challenges and increasing their communication and independence. The Special Ed Tech III - RBT is certified in behavior analysis and responsible for direct implementation of Positive Behavior Support Plans and skill acquisition programming for people with developmental disabilities based upon the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis under the direction of a BCBA. The Special Ed Tech III -RBT is responsible for monitoring progress of goals through daily data collection and clinical documentation.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Education: N/A
  • License/Certifications: Certificate of completion for the RBT 40-hour training, completed RBT Initial Competency Assessment, passed the RBT exam and received Registered Behavior Technician Certification from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board; Maintain RBT Certification: Must maintain RBT certification by participating in ongoing supervision that meets the RBT supervision, supervisor, and documentation requirements, adhere to the RBT Ethics Code and Self-reporting Requirements, complete an RBT renewal application every year, including an RBT Renewal Competency Assessment; Certification as an Education Technician III from the Maine Department of Education (minimum of 90 credits in approved study)
  • Experience: 1+ years of experience working with children or youth with developmental disorders, and/or challenging behavior in a school, hospital or residential setting
  • DOE fingerprinting required
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide education and care to students/patients (ages 5 - 20) with consideration of variable cognitive abilities, developmental levels, and cultural patterns
  • Willing and able to learn and appropriately implement crisis management procedures for the purpose of maintaining the safety of students and others
  • Minimal level of proficiency in swimming in both shallow and deep water to secure safety of students in the event of an emergency
