Job Description:
This position is a dynamic, challenging role that is focused on the creation of innovative design solutions in a collaborative, team-focused environment. An ideal candidate for this role will exhibit mastery of CAD modeling and drafting concepts, and have experience in reviewing and approving designs and drawings. They will be able to lead engineers in the design of detail parts, assemblies, and large installations for aircraft structure modifications, mission equipment integration, and mechanical systems with general supervision. Experience in aviation, aircraft structural design and/or modification is a must.
The candidate will apply an understanding of structural analysis into their designs and installation packages, and be able to communicate these concepts to their peers or engineers on their team. The candidate will be responsible for researching their projects to determine proper approach, conceptual development, preparation of engineering drawings, and generation of presentation materials for design reviews and customer facing meetings. The candidate will need to define and scope a project, and delegate tasks effectively. The candidate will coordinate their design activities with Tooling, Flight Sciences, Manufacturing, and Production to ensure that designs meet requirements while minimizing cost. Experience with Model Based Definition and GD&T is a plus, and experience in a production environment is preferred. Experience with meeting delivery schedules, tracking budgets, and general project management is highly desired. Experience in RFP's, subcontracts management, and bidding is desired.
Design work will be accomplished with airworthiness considerations in mind, so experience with meeting FAA regulations and general aviation experience is desired. Mechanical design engineers have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of tasks and aircraft systems on various aircraft platforms, so flexibility and creativity are highly desired.

- Create models and drafting concepts using CAD (Computer Aided Design) tools, as well as review and approve designs and drawings
- Lead a small team of engineers in the design of detail parts, assemblies, and large installations for aircraft structure modifications, mission equipment integration, and mechanical systems with general supervision
- Train and mentor junior engineers
- Learn and become familiar with L3Harris Technical Process Specifications and related design practices and methodologies
Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in Mechanical/Aerospace/Aeronautical/Civil Engineering or similar with minimum four (4) years aircraft design related experience or Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering with two (2) years aircraft design related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
- Experience in creating documents and presenting technical material to potential customers and executive level leadership
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications ie: Powerpoint, Excel, Word
- Be able to walk to and from the flight line, work in aircraft hangar environment and board/exit aircraft is required.
- Willing to travel (10%), if necessary
- Position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Security Clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Mastery of CAD software (NX/Unigraphics Preferred) and experience approving designs and drawings
- Knowledge and familiarity with part configuration database software (Teamcenter preferred)
- Understanding of basic aircraft systems and FAA certification requirements
- Experience with creating bids and proposals
