This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Towne Centre Drive and remote.

DESCRIPTION

The University of California, San Diego Health System seeks an individual with expert knowledge in a number of hosting technology disciplines including Linux and Windows server environments, cloud computing infrastructure design, Active Directory integration, and other high availability systems engineering support.

The incumbent provides system design proposals, analysis, programming, maintenance, monitoring, cost analysis and hardening designs (including data security) of systems and servers including installations, upgrades, patches, backup plans as well as documentation with primary responsibility for the design, implementation, management and maintenance techniques of various system software products and hardware components that comprise enterprise physical and virtual computing infrastructure. Provides leadership in managing and supporting the systems/hardware infrastructure and associated resources. Provides 7/24 problem management support and resolution for all applications and operating systems and participates in the on call schedule.

Incumbent will have expert knowledge with a variety of software tools, including those related to design, analysis and implementation. Incumbents provide consultation and knowledge transfer with respect to a variety of system hardware and software components including (but not limited to) Windows Server, Linux Servers (primarily Red Hat), and SAN storage technologies. Design knowledge and expertise with Cloud Computing technologies such as AWS, Azure and Office 365 administration.

The incumbent works with various parties to bring technical projects to completion. Demonstrated experience and proven expertise in intrusion detection and remediation. Additionally, the role involves application planning, coordination, and deployment support, as well as expert level Windows Server support, including knowledge and support of Distributed File System (DFS).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Nine (9) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus five (5) years of related experience/training. Related experience: Red Hat Linux, Windows Server, DFS, design implementation and management of these systems
  • Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Demonstrates problem-solving skills. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to write technical documentation in a clear and concise manner.
  • Understanding of system performance monitoring and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.
  • Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.
  • Demonstrated skills associated with adapting equipment and technology to serve user needs. Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of how system management actions affect other systems, system users and dependent / related functions.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge, skills and abilities associated with system problem identification and resolution. Experience with design, configuration, operation, repair, and tuning of technology systems.
  • Advanced experience writing and editing the most complex scripts used to perform system maintenance and administration.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer security best practices and policies including demonstrated experience securing most complex server-based software.
  • Experience leading a team of IT professionals.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proficiency in PowerShell and Ansible for automation tasks.
  • Expert level Linux installation, patching, infrastructure support, and troubleshooting skills
  • Expert level Windows Server support.
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE).
  • Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP).
  • Microsoft Certified Professional + Internet (MCP+I).
  • CompTIA A+
  • CompTIA Server+
  • CompTIA Network+
  • Microsoft Azure Fundamentals.
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA).
  • Experience with Active Directory, PowerShell, Microsoft Azure, and Office 365.
  • Knowledge of IT Project Management techniques/processes.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $104,900 - $198,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $50.24 - $95.26

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
