Summary

Typically a senior financial analyst is involved in activities that support the Board's efforts in monetary policy and financial regulation by providing analysis and forecasting of developments in the domestic and international economies and financial markets, analysis of options for regulatory decisions, development and maintenance of relevant economic data and related information systems, or developing and carrying out research work or projects designed to fulfill the policy analysis and current reporting responsibilities of the division.

Summary

The International Engagement and Strategy (IES) section within the Division of International Finance is seeking a Senior Analyst to engage with, and provide analysis in support of Board of Governor participation in, international forums and organizations, including the Bank for International Settlements, Group of 20 (G20), Group of 7 (G7), International Monetary Fund, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, other similar forums (i.e., CEMLA, Bellagio), and with other central banks and government entities. The FA will work closely with other U.S. government agencies, particularly the U.S. Treasury, and will participate in efforts to promote the Board's visibility, engagement, and influence, in recognition of its economic and financial expertise. The analyst leads and conducts coverage of, and analysis on, topical global policy issues, particularly those with relevance to U.S. and international institutions. The analyst also coordinates and supports Board member participation in international engagement, including by providing logistical support, setting agendas, coordinating bilateral meetings, hosting events and visitors, managing readouts and correspondence, and protecting the reputation of the Board by evaluating the background of foreign contacts.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Senior Financial Analyst in IES works independently, as well as with other staff members, and:

  • Contributes to promoting the Board's position on international economic matters through understanding and influencing the positions of the U.S. and international organizations through coalition building and negotiation.
  • Directs or conducts analysis and research on emerging and recurring international issues/topics at the forefront of U.S. and international institutions.
  • With limited guidance, prepares briefing books, background notes, annotated agendas, talking points, and other materials to prepare members of the Board and other Federal Reserve senior leaders for international meetings.
  • Leads and partakes in coordinating, in conjunction with other Board staff, the logistics of international engagement, including organizing attendance of Board member and senior staff at international meetings, scheduling of bilateral meetings, and managing correspondence from foreign counterparts.
  • Provides information, analysis, and technical advice to the division's senior staff, Board Members via reports, memoranda, and briefing material.
  • Leads and contributes to planning and hosting international meetings and visits with foreign officials, including planning and execution of U.S. hosted meetings, such as the G7 and G20, in coordination with Treasury and other relevant entities.
  • Independently anticipates issues requiring analysis and assists in planning and organizing the section's work.
  • Protects the reputation of the Board, working, in conjunction with other Board staff, to execute enterprise due diligence procedures for evaluating the authenticity and appropriateness of international interactions, including conducting research on the background of contacts
  • Builds new and strengthen existing relationships with other central banks, foreign finance ministries, and other official sector contacts. Serves on various international working groups and organizations, as appropriate and as needed.
  • Contributes to the division's strategic priorities through research and/or analytical projects.
  • Delivers presentations to Board members and senior staff and represents the section as needed in Division, Board, and System committees and/or working groups at international organizations.
  • With limited guidance, conducts in-depth financial and statistical analysis of complex issues with substantial creativity, independent judgment, and responsibility; recommends new approaches.


About the Team

The International Engagement and Strategy section is dedicated to bolstering the Board's visibility, engagement, and recognition of its economic and financial expertise in global topics. This includes developing and strengthening contacts and managing relationships with staff at other central banks, foreign finance ministries, and other official sector contacts and serving on and supporting various working groups of these international organizations. The section develops and executes the strategy for the Board's international engagement and conducts research and analysis related to emerging and recurring international issues, helping to shape the Board's point of view. The section conducts outreach and prepares briefing books, annotated agendas, talking points, and other materials for international meetings, including the coordination of materials with other divisions. Responsibilities also include coordinating the Board members' participation in and staff work related to international meetings and visitors, including evaluating the background of foreign contacts. The section also leads the Board's interaction with Treasury on the negotiation of meeting communiqués (e.g., G7, G20, IMFC).

Position Requirements/Qualifications

FR-27 requires a bachelor's degree in economics, finance, business administration, international policy/affairs, or related discipline, plus at least 6 years of relevant work experience (for example, Federal Reserve System or other policy institutions), or master's in economics, finance, business administration, international policy/affairs, or related field, plus at least 4 years of relevant work experience (excluding years spent in post-graduate study).

FR-28 requires a bachelor's degree in economics, finance, business administration, international policy/affairs, or related discipline, plus at least 8 years of relevant work experience (for example, Federal Reserve System or other policy institutions), or master's in economics, finance, business administration, international policy/affairs, or related field, plus at least 6 years of relevant work experience (excluding years spent in post-graduate study). More years of experience are preferred. Graduate level work in these areas (such as a master's degree) is a strongly desired.

A strong sense of collegiality and teamwork is essential, as is a commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace. Prior experience with coordination and outreach with international meetings, international organizations, and central banks and other official sector institutions is strongly desired. Experience with U.S. inter-agency process related to international economic issues also a plus.

  • Team Lead: Coordinates or leads the work of staff in own and other divisions for projects, may advise and train staff in own and other divisions regarding their roles in these projects. May oversee assignments and workflow of lower graded staff.


This position is in Washington, D.C. and offers a hybrid work environment, with opportunities to both telework and work onsite. Some onsite presence will be required. Travel frequency up to 25% depending on business needs.
