The Sr Practice Manager functions as an Operations Administrator for designated entities assigned. The incumbent in this position is responsible for the personnel, facilities, services, provider-payer relations, coordination, training, reporting management, and patient experience service recovery and results. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Health's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.

Primary Duties:

  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.


  • Supervises daily administrative activities and operations and oversees operational development regarding patient care and appointments. Coordinates the office operations with staff and ensures staff coverage. Assists and covers staff vacancies when necessary. Assigns work, monitors workflow and establishes priorities for daily operations.


  • Participates in the selection of staff, trains develop, evaluates, and supervises support staff for all office operations. Implements team-building activities to encourage productive work ethic and environment. Coaches and counsels' staff with regard to performance issues providing appropriate documentation . Evaluates staff performance, perform annual and probationary evaluations, and recommend disciplinary actions or terminations to their Human Resources Business Partner


  • Assists in managing the department's clinical/operational practice budget, including monitoring expenses, overseeing billing and collections, reconciling monthly financial reports for the clinic,


  • Coordinates and collaborates with nursing and support staff, faculty, patients, and other departments to develop and implement ongoing assessments of associate satisfaction, and patient experience.


  • Optimizes the use of patient care space in the clinic.


  • Develops workflows to streamline all operational processes for all department staff.


  • Assists in the development of consistent policies and procedures for ambulatory activities in the clinic. Ensures adherence to those policies and procedures by the staff.


  • Manages the IDX scheduling system-input schedules, troubleshooting the system, and helping others using the IDX system. Manages space and operations.


  • Establishes and monitors service protocols, patient flow, patient registration, scheduling and referrals, patient record maintenance, immunization program and immunization tracking.


  • Responsible for implementation and management of new technology .


  • Develops and ensures all key performance indicators, and productivity metrics for all providers and staff are implemented.


  • Recommends clinic facility improvements including construction, renovation, and purchase of equipment.


  • Responsible for compliance/provider audits/reporting with departmental standards and regulations.


  • Directs and coordinates specific function associated with clinical activities


  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts. Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare /business required .


  • Master's degree in health administration or related field preferred.


  • One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.


  • 4 years of directly related management experience, preferred in medical practice, required .


  • One year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.


  • Considerable knowledge of modern office procedures, practices, and equipment.


  • Good knowledge of (instructional) accounting principles and practices.


  • Background in the terminology of the department is desirable.


  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting policies and procedures.


  • Ability to plan, assign, review work and supervise.


  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.


  • Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.


  • Organized and able to handle multiple projects at a time.
