Join us as a Staff Services Manager I (Specialist) with the Civil Rights Department (CRD). In this role, you'll report to the Outreach and Education Manager and be a part of our in-person engagement team. Your mission? To develop our outreach and education efforts, ensuring that we effectively connect with and support communities across California.

Fluency in both Spanish and English (written and oral) is required, as you'll be representing the department in both languages and presenting to various audiences and stakeholders about CRD's work and California's civil rights laws. You'll work hand-in-hand with community organizations and other government entities, forging strong partnerships to provide vital outreach and education to Spanish-speaking individuals and communities throughout California.

Under the direction of the Staff Services Manager II (Supervisory) for the Outreach and Education Unit, the Staff Services Manager I (SSM I) will methodically plan, organize, and coordinate educational and outreach activities, including in-person and virtual events, inter-agency collaborations, and stakeholder meetings, with a special focus on engaging underrepresented communities., The SSM I will generate ideas to assist in advancing the Outreach and Education Unit's strategic goals to maximize impact. The Staff Services Manager I is responsible for disseminating comprehensive information about the services and mission of the California Civil Rights Department (CRD) to the public and distilling civil rights laws into clear, engaging, and educational materials. This position requires bilingual fluency (written and oral) in English and Spanish to perform the job duties.

    Department Information The Civil Rights Department (CRD or Department) is the civil rights enforcement agency for the State of California. CRD's mission is to protect all people in California from employment, housing and public accommodation discrimination, human trafficking, and hate violence.

    The CRD is the largest state civil rights enforcement agency in the country. It enforces the California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), Unruh Civil Rights Act, Disabled Persons Act, Ralph Civil Rights Act, and the California Trafficking Victims Protection Act. The Department has jurisdiction over both private and public entities operating within the State of California, including corporate entities, private sector companies that contract with the State of California, and all State departments and local governments.

    The CRD receives, investigates, conciliates, and initiates individual and systemic discrimination complaints in its six offices throughout California. CRD litigates individual, class, group and systemic cases in all California jurisdictions, including state and federal courts. It leads education and outreach efforts to stakeholders and the public, and has an active regulatory and legislative program.

    Telework Opportunity

    The California Civil Rights Department supports hybrid work schedules, including telework days, for employees who can perform their essential functions remotely, as operationally allowed. Travel expenses from your home to your assigned headquarters location is considered a normal commute and are not reimbursable.
