Job Summary
The Programs in Biology and Neuroscience are interdisciplinary programs offering Michigan students a chance to explore a range of topics from cell and molecular biology and neurobiology to ecology and evolutionary biology. The student services assistant is the initial point of contact to the undergraduate program for students, faculty, and visitors. The ability to manage a large workload, efficiently complete projects in a timely manner, and multi-task in a dynamic, fast-paced environment is essential. An enthusiastic, welcoming, and cheerful personality is critical.

Responsibilities*
Undergraduate Course Support
Under general supervision, provide course support for the Program in Biology, including updating and maintaining the time schedule and course guide, facilitate student registration, coordinate instructor evaluations, monitor course waitlists and issue course overrides as appropriate. Submit room requests to the Registrar's Office, coordinating requests between the instructors and RO as necessary. Inform instructors of room reservations and maintain current data in the room request log.
Student Advising Support
Explain processes and major information to students and others as needed, ensure requests are properly submitted with the required materials, coordinate with Faculty research sponsors, transfer credit evaluators, and Biology and university offices. Communicate relevant enrollment processes to students and ensure evaluation and advising outcomes are properly recorded and student transcripts are updated.
General Office Support
Provide general administrative support to the Program in Biology office and various committees. Coordinate the Program in Biology Undergraduate Services public space including answering the main office telephone lines and handling walk-in traffic, responding to questions regarding policies (e.g., FERPA) and class-related issues, maintaining calendar of Program in Biology administrative deadlines, provide backup to other student services staff as needed (e.g., monitor the office email inbox and coordinate responses in collaboration with team members, implement special projects and office events (e.g., commencement, student engagement opportunities).
Website Editing & Communications
Update the Program in Biology website with unit-provided content; design event-related flyers, emails, and other custom materials for distribution to students, faculty, and staff; meet regularly with departmental communications teams to align efforts and streamline outreach; oversee newsletter content and design in Mailchimp.
Required Qualifications*
High school education or equivalent and two to four years of experience. Excellent writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, independent judgment and diplomacy; good problem-solving skills; accuracy and attention to detail while working in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions; ability to work well under pressure, prioritizing and handling various tasks simultaneously; extensive computer experience including Google suite applications, e-mail, spreadsheets, and graphic design tools; ability to manage multiple projects; well-organized; able to work well both independently and as part of a team.
Physical requirement:
An ability to move/transport objects weighing 10-25 lbs.
Desired Qualifications*
Bachelor's Degree and progressively responsible work experience. Experience working in an academic unit with 2-4 years student services experience; knowledge of University policies, rules, and administrative procedures; familiarity with university-based applications, MPathways Curriculum or Student Services modules.
Work Locations
We seek candidates willing to work onsite a minimum of four days per week from the Biological Sciences Building in Ann Arbor, MI, with some flexibility for remote work during off-peak times. Must be able to work at a computer in an open office workspace.
Modes of Work
