Under the general direction of the Emergency Communications Division Chief, the Senior Coordinator's (Communications) responsibility is to supervise operational staff in planning, development, operation, coordination and evaluation of the services to support and implement the statewide Tactical Communications program goals and objectives during normal and disaster operations. The incumbent is also responsible for oversight and operation of the tactical communications projects and systems used by California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES), ensuring that the equipment is available for operation at all times. Oversees training for staff and manages federal communications assistance programs and grants; during emergencies coordinates tactical communication emergency response activities.
Responsibilities of the Tactical Communications Unit are to provide guidance for statewide interoperability planning and coordination activities for all levels of government; ensuring that statewide emergency communications response and recovery resources are properly coordinated; develop regulation and planning guidance as mandated by state or federal law; and provide on-going tactical communications assistance, support and guidance to other Cal OES Branches and Regions.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule which includes up to two days of remote work per week. Additional in office days may be required based on the business need.

In the event of an emergency, employees may be contacted and requested to report to work in the event of an emergency. This contact may be outside of your normal working hours (evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays). This service may require irregular work hours, work locations other than the official duty location, and may include duties other than those specified in your official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and you may be required to relocate to emergency sites.
