The mission of the school of nursing is to champion health and well-being through the power of nursing education, discovery and practice.

Chief Purpose of this position:

This 12-month tenure-track faculty position in the School of Nursing is open to all ranks (Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor). The individual in this role will maintain an active program of research with substantial external funding; be committed to teaching and mentoring students; and be fully engaged in service to the School of Nursing, University, profession, and community. The candidate should have experience conducting a program of research that supports health and wellness and addresses health equity. The candidate will engage in research that complements and expands existing expertise in the School of Nursing, namely biobehavioral science and health equity across the lifespan, health systems science, and/or novel practice/ education models (https://nursing.vcu.edu/research/faculty-research-and-scholarship-interests/).

Appointment rank and salary are commensurate with experience and preparation. Candidates who qualify for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor at VCU School of Nursing may qualify for an endowed appointment.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates an integrated academic life, contributing to the teaching, scholarship and service missions in our urban research-intensive university with an academic health sciences center
  • Implements a program of research with external funding
  • Contributes to and collaborates with our community of scholars
  • Mentors faculty and students in successfully implementing programs of research
  • Participates in all aspects of curriculum including teaching across programs
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the School of Nursing's Mission and Vision and to contributing to VCU's Quest 2028 (https://quest.vcu.edu/)
  • Engages faculty, students, and staff to foster an inclusive community at VCU

Required Qualifications:
  • Research doctoral degree, in nursing or other related field
  • Experience in teaching
  • Established program of research that complements the areas of emphasis within the School of Nursing (https://nursing.vcu.edu/research/faculty-research-and-scholarship-interests/)
  • Demonstrated research productivity including a record of external research funding, publications, and cogent plants for future externally-funded research
  • Demonstrated excellence in and passion for mentoring colleagues and students
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including excellence in working effectively with others
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience with or commitment to fostering an academic environment that supports a culture of inclusion and belonging for all students, staff, and faculty
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated success in obtaining federal/ large-scale funding for program of research
  • Record of accomplishments in community-engagement, clinical practice, and/or professional service
  • Demonstrated success in mentoring and teaching graduate-level students
  • Direct research experience in a biomedical or clinical laboratory
  • For candidates with a nursing background (bachelor's or master's degree in nursing), must have an active RN license or be eligible for licensure in Virginia
  • Advanced practice nursing degree with board certification and active APRN license or eligibility for licensure in Virginia
