The Well Community Resource Center Development VISTA
The Well Community (The Well) located in Oak Cliff, TX (South Dallas area) is a nonprofit organization providing hope and stability to adults living with mental illness through healthy relationships, essential services, and meaningful activities. Founded in 2002, The Well offers psychosocial intervention incorporating elements of the Clubhouse model, a best practice in mental health care, which have shown that recidivism rates for psychiatric hospitalization and incarceration have more to do with a person's social support system than any other factor. Our Community Life Center provides prepared, nutritious meals, case management, crisis intervention, group sessions, and teaches skills required for independent living. We help clients secure housing, food, clothing, benefits, and legal aid. Additionally, The Well operates a supportive housing program, Jacob's House, for low-income men with chronic mental illness. The Resource Center Development VISTA will establish a resource center to provide the Well Community with a coordinated and expanded method to assist low-income adults living with debilitating mental illness by providing items to improve their quality of life.
