Job Description

Under the direction and in collaboration with the Director of Nursing for Adult Behavioral Health, the Training and Development Representative carries out or performs managerial and clerical activities in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the hospital. The staff performs functions to achieve and maintain a seamless Prevention and Management of Crisis Situations Program (PMCS) activities and operations.

Job Responsibilities:
1. Assist in the planning, organizing and coordinating of training and development activities related to PMCS.
2. Monitors utilization of crisis and/or de-escalation intervention practices, when necessary and appropriate, with patient whose behavior cannot be otherwise supported without such interventions.
3. Registers staff for PMCS training for both general nursing area and psychiatry.
4. Maintains a database/log for educational activities related to PMCS.
5. Coordinates in planning and scheduling of PMCS classes.
6. Arranges for venues for classes/trainings, including preparation of equipment, attendance sheet and hand-outs.
7. Delivers the content of PMCS as an instructor to multidisciplinary attendees.
8. Assist in updating materials.
9. Make copies and/or scanning document for recordkeeping.
10. Compiles and maintains files of PMCS activities/certificates/sign-in sheets.
11. Provides staff notification for scheduled of in-services, classes, training, etc.
12. Attends and participates in Nursing Professional Development meetings and departmental meetings as needed.
13. Consulting and advising facility administration on policy, procedures and supervision. Issues as well as sitting on various committees that are affected by PMCS.
14. Participates in departmental quality assurance/performance improvement activities, plans of corrective action and other special projects.
15. Participates in departmental and/or hospital-wide Criss Management training.
16. Assist in clinical supervision during crisis response by providing feedback during pre and post debriefing.
17. Provide feedback on the competency of responders/attendees to the head of Nurse/AND/DON
18. Assist in the planning, organizing, and coordinating of training activities related to application and removal of restraints as needed.
19. Keeps records of all providing training.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Ability to carry out written and oral instructions.
2. Ability to establish successful interpersonal relationships with patients and coworkers.
3. Successful completion of an appropriate training program in the application and use of restraints/seclusion and the management of a crisis situations.
4. Demonstrates a profession appearance and demeanor at all times.
Educational and Experience Required
1. A Baccalaureate Degree from accredited college or university in Public Health, Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Work, Psychology or Rehabilitation Counseling or
2. Three (3) years of full-time experience leading and facilitating PMCS and
3. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
4. Certified PMCS Instructor by the OMH or other evidence-based approved de-escalation program approved by NYC Health + Hospital
5. Current CPR certified according to the American Heart Association standard
6. Successful completion of Competency Skills Validation and performance evaluation.

Department Preferences
1. Crisis Management training and knowledge in the application of mechanical restraint and seclusion.
2. Experience leading groups and coordinating structured activities that foster a therapeutic environment.
3. Has the willingness and ability to be successfully trained. To demonstrate effective implementation of, and to appropriately employ physical restraint for the purpose of maintaining the safety of patients and others.
4. Proven record of good attendance in the past year (12 months).
5. Performance Evaluation with a value higher or equal to satisfactory plus
6. No active disciplinary action within past 6 months.
7. Has been recognized by BRT team members as active participants during BRTs on their assigned units.
