Primary Purpose:

Coordinate assignments and schedules of bus drivers, routes, and vehicles to ensure safe, efficient and economical transportation services. Schedules and assigns vehicles and drivers for all extra-curricular trips. Map and route all students using electronic routing software and assign all drivers and vehicles to extra-curricular trips. Drive bus as a substitute bus driver when needed.

Job Description:

To work with parents, campuses and transportation personnel on day to day operations. This will include generating and covering routes, field trips, dispatching, and responding to telephone calls.

Qualifications: Education/Certification: High School Diploma or GED Must be a minimum of twenty one (21) years of age Clear Criminal History Check Must pass randomly administered drug and alcohol tests Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record Commercial Driver's License with P & S endorsements (must obtain within 90 days of employment) Must complete and maintain current State Bus Certification Course Must be able to pass an annual DOT physical Special Knowledge/Skills: Effective telephone and radio communication skills Ability to receive and give verbal instructions effectively Proficient map reading skills Basic math skills Ability to use a personal computer to do word processing, databases, and spreadsheets Ability to use specialized computer programs dealing with transportation routing, planning, and trip scheduling Ability to operate a school bus Must have excellent phone etiquette Must have a positive attitude with the ability to work as a team player

Major Responsibilities and Duties: Assist or handle assignments of bus drivers, bus routes, vehicles, and substitutes for morning and afternoon shifts. Coordinate extracurricular transportation for the district Report vehicle breakdowns to maintenance personnel for prompt and immediate action Help maintain data required to plan bus route and post route schedules Coordinate and schedule all regular and summer school routes Write, schedule and keep daily logs of activities Dispatch drivers and vehicles and communicate with them using a telephone and two-way radio Communicate with students, parents, staff and community about transportation Interact with special program administrators and school officials concerning routes and extra-curricular trips Help school place new students on buses and advise drivers of new or dismissed students Ability to coordinate, schedule or dispatch field trips and other activities Perform other duties as assigned Ability to drive a school bus (non CDL will have 90 days to obtain after hire) Ability to navigate and assist as a Bus Monitor. Responsibilities & Requirements: Responsible for the timely departure of all routes, field trips and other trips to ensure the timely arrival of buses at the destination as per instructions and/or route schedules Responsible for the daily input and administration of the Transportation Routing System Responsible for the transportation requirements for the summer school program Maintains and periodically updates the master file route sheets and maps. Maintains accurate records on student riders. Maintains accurate records for preparation of various state reports. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Director for Transportation.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Moderate walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, reaching, heavy lifting and carrying; working outside and inside; exposure to extreme temperatures and vehicle fumes; working around moving objects and machinery with moving parts.
