Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
Experience: 8 YEARS engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis . Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications:
*Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States , but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.

Position Description
This position performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, maintenance and research. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.
Essential Duties:
Transportation Engineer V:
- Assists Project Managers to establish realistic and achievable schedule baselines for advanced and highly complex projects.
- Reviews, develops and supports Standard Operating Procedures for developing, maintaining and archiving project schedules; managing resources; managing budgets; managing project changes, and managing quality performance measurements.
- Analyzes and assists in the resolution of contract problems and disputes.
- Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.
- Coordinates with Area Engineers and reviews area office contract submissions.
- Develops short-term and long-term goals and coordinates planning activities and resources required to meet goals.
- Monitors contract performance, evaluates contract deliverables, reviews billing documentation, monitors the consultant's compliance with the terms of the contract, and prepares and delivers a written evaluation of the consultant's performance.
- Performs and coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submission, special specifications or special provisions.
- Performs highly advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

- Licensed Prof Engineer*

- Applicable governmental laws, rules and regulations specific to area of responsibility for safeguarding information and information technology related systems.
- Applicable plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, processing, and compliance requirements.
- Applicable engineering workstations and applications to support efficient planning and design activities.
- Design and plan preparation methods and requirements.
- Applicable laws, rules, and regulation.
- Contract development and oversight.
- Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external.
- Planning, coordinating, and handling multiple projects within area of responsibility to meet short- and long-term deadlines.
- Exercises logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; makes decisions that support business objectives and goals.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs. at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs.
- Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device.
- Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and above 100 degrees for more than one hour.
- Subject to noise.
- Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading.
- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
