WisDOT is currently seeking to fill a Transportation Specialist Advanced (plans production coordinator position) within the Division of Transportation System Development, Southwest Region. This position will be located in our LaCrosse WI office.

Position Summary

This position works with region and bureau personnel to improve engineering procedures, policy, and operation efficiency. Responsibilities include technical support, application training, system evaluation, research, development and documentation.

As the sole coordinator for engineering software technology this position trains and mentors employees in the operation of Civil 3D for developing highway engineering procedures and best practices in complex alignment layout, roadway design template building, earthwork computations and detailing work.

This position operates and directs operation of a Computer Aided Design & Drafting System (CADDS) workstation for design and drafting of highway improvement plans and is responsible for establishing integration procedures and documentation between the CADDS and the roadway design software. This position is under the general supervision of the Project Development Supervisor.

This position requires an understanding of digital databases, scanning, networks, digital photography, and color plotting as well as an understanding of highway engineering and design principles. This position also serves as a GIS resource for creating survey and mapping deliverables as well as fulfilling other general GIS requests. Responsibilities also include participating in pilot efforts to test new software or tools.

Salary Information

This position is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $64,480-$85,280, plus excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants will have experience with all the following:
  • Experience reading and interpreting design or construction plans and contract documents.
  • Experience with engineering principles utilized in highway design and construction.
  • Experience working with CADDS MicroStation in utilizing Civil 3D software and AutoCAD platform software to develop highway improvement plans.
