Position Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Specialist- Advanced performs maintenance and repairs to building mechanical equipment including overhead doors, advanced level electrical and plumbing maintenance and repairs, maintenance and repair to HVAC units and controls, steam lines, valves, and associated equipment. The incumbent will be expected to independently troubleshoot, perform diagnostic procedures, and determine alternatives for repair or solve the requirement directly. In addition, the Facilities Maintenance Specialist- Advanced will occasionally be assigned maintenance, repairs and some small remodeling projects to the building structural components, grounds, and pavement areas, and may serve as a lead worker over personnel assigned to assist with these activities. These positions will primarily work in Madison but may also be required to travel to other facilities located in Area 1 (southwest corner of the state).

Salary Information

Starting pay will be $23.24 per hour, plus an excellent benefits package.

For current permanent state employees, pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

A 12-month probation may be required.

The classification title for this position is Facilities Maintenance Specialist - Advanced (pay schedule-range 03-13).

Job Details

This position has the following conditions of employment
  • Required to possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must be physically able to lift and move objects in excess of 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to operate lift equipment and have no limitations for working in high areas.
  • All new permanent, project, and limited term employees will be required to report to JFHQ in Madison on the Monday of their first week of employment for the New Employee Orientation (NEO) program. Additional information will be sent to the new employees and their supervisors on the Tuesday prior to NEO.

Qualifications

Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for this position will have experience with most of the following:
  • Knowledge/ training in using hand and power tools.
  • Basic plumbing knowledge/ training.
  • Basic electrical knowledge/ training.
  • Basic knowledge/ training of heating and cooling systems.
  • Knowledge/experience in using snow removal and/or landscaping equipment.
