Position Information
TXDOT's Dallas County Area Office is looking for a Design Specialist/Design Engineer to join the Dallas County design team in a Project Manager role, directly responsible for designing, managing, and coordinating plan designs for various construction projects throughout Dallas County. In this role, you will assist with project planning and development for projects involving constructing, maintaining, and repairs of our highways, bridges, and other transportation infrastructure within Dallas County. This will include assisting in coordinating bridge action-item repairs designed by the Dallas Bridge design group, and incorporating them within your design projects to facilitate on-going infrastructure repairs, as well as manage & coordinate project deliverables assigned to other Dallas District in-house design groups. While working closely with co-workers within the Area Office design team, you will build and oversee entire projects from the initial scoping & design stage, all the way through the Letting and Bidding process.
Working in the Dallas County Area Office provides a great opportunity for a flexible work schedule, with up to 2 telework days a week, to facilitate a healthy work/life balance. Position Description
Provides technical expertise and coordination for transportation programs involving design, building construction projects, construction of transportation systems, traffic operations, maintenance of highways and facilities, or bridge inspection and appraisal in accordance with Department standards. Assists with project planning and the development of policies and procedures for area of responsibility. Work requires contact with governmental officials, consultants, contractors and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline. Relevant experience may be substituted for education on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
Transportation Specialist I: 2 years transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, bridge inspection experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent).
Transportation Specialist II: 4 years transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, bridge inspection experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent).
Transportation Specialist III: 5 years transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, bridge inspection experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent).
Transportation Specialist IV: 5 years transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, bridge inspection experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent).
Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
