Tutor - Math Center (Part-time)

Overview:

The Math Center Tutor is a resource for students in Mathematics and mathematics-centered courses who need additional support in developing and honing math skills that will allow them to succeed in their course work. The Math Center Tutor helps students to develop the skills necessary for success in math-centered courses. By enhancing students' mathematics competency, the Math Center Tutor plays a vital role in improving student retention and gateway course completion.

Essential Duties:
  • Provide support to students in all levels of mathematics, from developmental level courses to calculus.
  • Provide support for math-centered courses, such as Physics and Chemistry.
  • Identify and address specific challenges and areas of improvement for individual students.
  • Create and make available to students supplemental exercises addressing specific computational and conceptual issues in mathematics.
  • Review and clarify instructional feedback on completed work.
  • Assist in the development, promotion, and delivery of workshops.
  • Record student activity using Starfish or other student records software.
  • Provide outreach to the college community to raise awareness of the Math Center and its services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a Mathematics or related field
  • Experience as a classroom-instructor or tutor of mathematics at the college-level
  • Experience constructing, conducting and assessing mathematics exercises and activities.
  • Broad range of expertise in mathematics topics including but not limited to algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and statistics
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or related field
  • Community College teaching or tutoring experience
  • Experience working in a Math Center or Tutoring Center
  • College-level curriculum development experience

Reports to: Dean of Humanities and Sciences

Minimum Hourly rate: $22/hour

Contractual Affiliation: Non-bargaining

Exempt Classification: Non-Exempt

Status: Part time (Not to exceed 29 hours per week.)
